Anita Ekberg

Marianne (Swedish pronunciation (listen) 29/09/1931 - 11/01/2015) was an
Swedish actress, known for her attractive and striking physique. Her iconic
character of Sylvia in Federico Fellini's film La Dolce Vita (1960) earned her
fame. Ekberg primarily worked in Italy which was her permanent resident in
1964. Anita Ekberg was the sixth child of eight. Anita was a model during her
teens. Ekberg, at the urging of her mother in 1950 was a contestant in Miss
Malmo. The result was that she won the Miss Sweden contest. Even though she
spoke little English Ekberg travelled to the United States to compete in the
Miss Universe 1951 title. This was an not an official pageant at the time. The
pageant officially became officially recognized in 1952. Ekberg was not the
winner of the Miss Universe pageant. However, she was one six Finalists.
Universal Studios offered her an exclusive starlet contract. As the starlet at
Universal she was given lessons in elocution and drama, dancing, horseback
riding, and fencing. She did a brief appearance in The Mississippi Gambler
(1953), Abbott and Costello go to Mars (1953), Take Me to Town (1953), and The
Golden Blade (53).
