Tina Louise Louise's early and personal life

Tina Louise (nee Blacker; February 11 1934) is an American actress, best known for playing movie star Ginger Grant in the CBS TV drama Gilligan's Island. Her stage career began in the mid-1950s. She was then chosen to play God's Little Acre, a 1957 drama film. In this role, she received the Golden Globe Award as New Star of the year. Louise was a star in The Trap, The Hangman, Day of the Outlaw, and For Those Who Think Young. She was also in The Wrecking Crew, The Happy Ending and The Stepford Wives (1975). Louise was the last remaining original Gilligan's Island's television series following Dawn Wells' death in 2020. Louise was born Tina Blacker to a New York City Jewish family. At four years old the parents of her divorced parents had separated. The mother of Tina, Sylvia Horn (nee Myers), who was a model and mother to her sole child. Tina's father Joseph Blacker, a Brooklyn candy shop owner who later became an accountant, was Tina. Louise was said to have been added to her name during her senior year in high school. She had told her drama teacher that she was not the only girl in her class with a middle name, and the teacher suggested the idea. After high school, she attended Miami University in Ohio. Louise currently resides in New York City. She is a lifetime member of Actors Studio and an Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences member. Louise is a fervent advocate for the development of literacy among children. She donated a part of the earnings from her 2007 book, When I Grow Up to literacy programs. She also stated in an interview with the BBC in 2013 that she has been helping out at the local public school since 1996. She's written three books including Sunday A Memoir (1997) and When I Grow Up (2007).
